SMA Launches 2017 Summer School


2017 SMA Summer School to focus on faith and responding to changing times.

The Society of African Missions (SMA) recently launched their annual Summer School programme which will take place in Dromantine, Co. Down from 7-9 July, 2017.

With the theme 'Faith: Responding to changing times', the event aims to explore the realities of faith in today's world. The three keynote speakers are:

  • Justin Kilcullen, former Executive Director of Trocáire, will examine a faith response to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Paul Vallely, Director of The Tablet, asks if Pope Francis can resolve internal church tensions and influence others beyond.
  • Dr. Fáinche Ryan of the Loyola Institute in Trinity College Dublin, will look at the imbalanced church leadership and the arising challenges and consequences.

The event will also feature a number of workshops including 'The Reality of Direct Provision and the Christian Duty to Demand Change' by retired High Court Judge, Dr. Bryan McMahon; Sr. Nellie McLaughlin, RSM, will reflect on 'Laudato Si'; and Fr. Gerry O'Hanlon, SJ, will look at 'The People on the Margins: A Faith Response in a Secular Society'.
