Dr. Eugene,

The OLA Sisters and all OLA volunteers want to thank you for your enormous service to their Health Centres and Clinics in Bugisi, a remote and rural region in the  vast diocese of Shinyanga in Tanzania.

The patients loved to see you come; they came in their numbers, they would trek for miles to the clinic when you were there, for healing, medicine and reassurance that all would be well. You reached out to the poor, the vulnerable with such respect that they went back home feeling restored in body and in spirit.

The staff held you in high regard and greatly appreciated your medical expertise. The medical students from University College Cork (UCC) really appreciated your being there during their elective experience. For them you were a fantastic teacher by day and in the evenings, as a colleague, you would go over the various diseases, probable causes and cures and reassure them that they were doing well.  In fact all volunteers were happy and felt ‘extra safe’ when you were around. You were with us again in February/March 2017; little did we know that this would be your last time among us. You always seemed so relaxed and at peace in Bugisi and we are so grateful to retain that abiding memory of you.

Dr. Eugene Casey, a GP based in Ennis, Co. Clare used to work as a volunteer with the OLA Sisters for some four to five weeks periodically in their Health Centre in Bugisi, Tanzania. Dr. Eugene went home to God on 4th July 2017.
