Two Irish volunteers arrived in Mwanza, Tanzania yesterday ahead of their upcoming roles supporting the OLA education missions in Bugisi and Mwamapalala. Mary O'Driscoll, a native of Co. Cork, has been volunteering with the OLA Sisters since the 1972. Next week she will take-up a role in Mwamapalala secondary school. Mary Mullarkey, who hails from Co. Mayo, will travel to Bugisi where she will volunteer in the OLA-run primary school located in the area.
The new school term in Tanzania commenced last week. The OLA Sisters mission in Tanzania focuses on education, healthcare and pastoral works. The Sisters have had a presence in the east African country since 1991 and currently have communities in Mwanza, Bugisi and Mwamapalala. More volunteers from across Ireland will travel to Tanzania this Spring and Summer as the education and health care missions continue to expand.
