Women's Interfaith Council, Nigeria observe International Peace walk

Press Release

By Interfaith Forum of Muslim and Christian Women’s Association, aka, Women’s Interfaith Council (WIC).
To mark the International Day of Peace on 21st September 2014.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as an annual day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, non-violence and cease-fire both within and among all nations and peoples.

The theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is the “Right of Peoples to Peace”. This theme resonate the very importance of peace for the existence and survival of humanity.

As women, wives, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunties, our hearts are grieved every time we see fellow women subjected to pains and horrors they know nothing about. This steals away their rights to peace. Particularly at this time we remember the Chibok girls who are being held in captivity for no offence. For most victims, the trauma that follows because of acts of violence, remain with them for live.
On this day therefore as interfaith group and as women particularly, we join our voices and hands with other peace loving people in Nigeria to call for an end to all forms of violence in our land. We the Women of Interfaith Council pleads with all aggrieved persons to sheath their swords as we have seen that violence does not bring any good to any people. Instead, it brings with it vicious circles of pains, horrors, deprivations, setbacks and underdevelopment.

Only peace can bring happiness, fulfillment, stability, progress and development. We therefore ask all concerned people to seek to pursue peace for in it we can have united and prosperous nation.
